Technical Points / Summary

? Essentially a pivot table (cross tab, etc) of the FMEA which groups the FMEA records by Effect (typ System Effect)

? lists the failure rate of each failure mode in each group and sums the FMFRs to provide a total failure rate for each Effect (i.e. FMES record)

? The FMES provides inputs to higher level (i.e. super system) FMEAs and fault tree analyses (FTA)

? Historically, FMES' have not always been a deliverable data item and therefore not every FMEA is compliled into an FMES

? Over time, there seems to have been an increasing awareness of the importance and application of the FMES and it is now frequently a deliverable addendum to the FMEA
