SMITHS Electronic Systems:
IPT Lead; Reliability Engineer  (on-site)

Consultant ~ Dates:

Alana Depew ~ 2003

Developed piece part failure rate predictions of mechanical and hydraulic subassemblies derived from NPRD95, MIL-HDBK-217F(2) predictions of electronic assemblies. Reviewed supplier Reliability predictions and FMECA for accuracy and compliance. Performed system reliability modeling and interfaced with Boeing to resolve outstanding technical issues. Completed trade-off studies and advised design team of reliability impact on on-going development issues. Prepared PDR and CDR system Reliability Analysis reports.

• Performed failure mode, effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) on two aerial refueling system designs. Investigated single-point failure modes and interfaced with design engineers and Project to resolve same. Prepared PDR and CDR system FMECA reports.

• Assisted to resolve ILS and IFS provisioning decisions, and prepared technical information for new program proposals.

Boeing selected Smiths Aerospace for it’s expertise in both military and commercial fuel systems and structural components.  The aerial refueling system interfaces with the mission control system, providing an integrated solution to accomplish the aircraft’s primary mission.  The system is integrated within an aerodynamic wing pod and/or a fuselage mounted palletised pressure box to allow easy installation and removal.
